ESAT Past Paper Questions

The ESAT (Engineering and Science Admissions Test) replaced the NSAA (Natural Science Admissions Test) and ENGAA (Engineering Admissions Test) from the 2024/2025 cycle onwards. As the ESAT is relatively new, past papers are not yet available, and students can use the NSAA and ENGAA papers to prepare.

The ESAT is divided into five modules, each of which comprise 27 Multiple-Choice Questions and should be completed in 40 minutes. Each module is timed separately such that if a candidate finishes a module early, the time is not carried over to the next module.

  • Mathematics I (compulsory)

  • Biology

  • Chemistry

  • Physics

  • Mathematics II

Mathematics I is compulsory and candidates are required to choose another two moodules to take. Universities will specify on individual websites on whether specific modules are required. For example, engineering courses typically require you to take Physics and Mathematics II. Calculators and formula sheets are no provided and there is no negative marking.

The ESAT is scored from 1.0 to 9.0, with 4.5 being the average in previous years. Applicants to top universities should score above 7.0 to be competitive.
