TMUA Past Paper Questions

Students applying to mathematically demanding courses such as Computer Science, Economics and Mathematics may be required to take the TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admission), which tests candidates’ logical reasoning, fluency with algebra and functions and precision and accuracy.

The TMUA is a computer-based test and lasts 2 hour 30 minutes in total. It is divided into two parts, each comprising 20 multiple choice questions:

  • Applications of Mathematical Knowledge

  • Mathematical Reasoning

Questions across both papers carry equal weightage. Calculators are not permitted and there is no formula booklet. Candidates are tested on speed, judgment and reasoning, and there is no negative marking for wrong answers.

TMUA Content Specification

The TMUA is scored from 1.0 to 9.0, with 5.4 being the average in previous years. The scale is designed such that approximately a third of candidates will score above 6.5. Therefore, applicants to top universities should score above 7.0 to be competitive.
